Hungary’s export-ready expertise was represented at the 22nd Congress of AfWASA in Uganda’s capital by a delegation from the Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP). Led by HWP President Dr Károly Kovács, the seven-member team included the cluster’s Secretary-General, the representative from the management organisation, and branch directors from five member companies operating in Hungary and across Africa.
As one of Africa’s most significant water-sector events, it provided a great opportunity for HWP leaders to share insights in three key sessions.
Dr Károly Kovács and General Secretary Bálint Horváth presented Hungarian solutions on topics such as aligning water and climate goals, financing water infrastructure developments, improving regulatory systems, and introducing applicable technologies.
As part of the official programme, HWP organised a dedicated session and panel discussion on “future-proof” and “bankable” water sector development opportunities, showcasing achievements both in Hungary and internationally. The event, moderated by Dr Kovács, who is also a member of AfWASA’s Strategic Council, welcomed high-profile participants, including Uganda’s State Minister of Water and the Presidents of the Uganda Chamber of Commerce, the International Water Association (IWA), and the executive director of AfWASA.
During the forum the participants held discussions with senior representatives of Uganda’s water administration and conducted successful bilateral meetings with experts from several countries.
We would like to express our gratitude to Mrs Katalin Bihari, Deputy State Secretary for Foreign Economic Development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, for her diplomatic support in the preparations, Mr Gábor Jenei, CEO of the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency, for financially supporting our event and Ambassador Dr János Terényi, Head of the Kampala Office of the Embassy of Hungary in Nairobi, for providing essential information and coordinating activities on site.
