Hungarian Water Partnership at IFAT India 2025
Hungarian water expertise presented at India’s leading environmental technology exhibition
The Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP) participated in IFAT India 2025, one of India’s most important environmental technology exhibitions, held from 14–16 October 2025 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai.
India is becoming an increasingly important market for environmental and water technologies and plays a growing role in the development and implementation of solutions supporting a more sustainable future. IFAT India provides a major platform for innovation, professional exchange, market development and international cooperation.
The 2025 edition brought together more than 400 exhibitors from around the world and attracted nearly 16,000 visitors, underlining the scale and importance of the event for the environmental and water sectors.
Hungarian technologies in focus
HWP participated at the exhibition as part of the Hungarian delegation and exhibitor team supported by the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA).
The Hungarian delegation presented water-treatment expertise and technologies with particular emphasis on advanced drinking water purification and regenerable adsorbent-based treatment solutions.
These technologies respond to one of the most important drinking water challenges in India and in many other regions worldwide: the removal of naturally occurring contaminants, including arsenic, from groundwater and drinking water sources.
Throughout the three-day exhibition, the Hungarian presence, and the solutions of HWP attracted significant professional interest and provided opportunities for consultations, B2B meetings and discussions with utilities, companies, public-sector representatives and technology experts.
Professional dialogue on arsenic contamination
Alongside the exhibition, HWP organised a dedicated professional panel discussion focusing on arsenic contamination in groundwater and drinking water, its public-health implications and available treatment solutions.
The session was led by Bálint Horváth, Secretary General of the Hungarian Water Partnership, and brought together representatives from India’s scientific, regulatory and municipal sectors.
The discussion addressed both the risks associated with arsenic contamination and the practical challenges of selecting technologies that are effective, affordable and sustainable over the long term. A key focus was placed on regenerable adsorbent technologies developed by Hungarian companies.
Among the solutions presented was AsMET, a drinking water purification technology based on specialised regenerable adsorbent media. The technology enables effective arsenic removal while helping to reduce hazardous waste generation and support more sustainable operation.
The strong interest shown during the session confirmed that arsenic removal remains an important area for professional cooperation and technology transfer between Hungary and India.
Building on successful pilot projects
Hungarian water-sector companies have already gained practical experience in India through pilot projects addressing local drinking water challenges.
One such initiative, the AsFreeWATER pilot project, was supported through the European Union’s Eureka INNOWWIDE programme and successfully demonstrated the potential of Hungarian water-treatment technologies under Indian conditions. Building on these results, HWP and its member companies see strong potential for further cooperation in the fields of drinking water treatment, contaminant removal and decentralised water solutions.
Strengthening Hungarian - Indian water cooperation
Participation in IFAT India 2025 formed part of HWP’s broader international market-development activities. By connecting Hungarian water-sector companies with utilities, regulators, scientific institutions and business partners, HWP aims to support the transition from professional dialogue and pilot projects to long-term cooperation and concrete market opportunities.
India’s growing demand for reliable, cost-effective and sustainable water technologies creates strong opportunities for Hungarian expertise, particularly in areas such as arsenic removal, advanced adsorption technologies, drinking water purification and decentralised treatment systems.
HWP will continue to support its member companies in developing professional and commercial partnerships in India and across the wider Asian market.
