The Hungarian Water Partnership continues to strengthen its role in Africa’s water and sanitation sector through cooperation, knowledge transfer and the expertise of its member companies. At the 97th AfWASA Strategic and Technological Council Meetings, HWP was represented in a major discussion on the future regulation of faecal sludge treatment.

Water challenges don´t stop at national borders. Climate change, rapid urbanisation, growing water demand and increasing pressure on natural resources are creating complex challenges that require international cooperation, innovation and shared expertise.

On the 27th of February, the Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP) and the Pan-African Association of Sanitation Actors (PASA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a framework for cooperation for the joint development of an ecosystem and value chain for non-sewered sanitation, faecal sludge treatment and resource valorisation.

A high-level African water delegation of 50 welcomed in Budapest. At the invitation of the Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP), 50 senior water sector leaders, technical directors, and policy decision-makers from over 15 African countries visited Budapest between February 24–28, 2026, to learn about Hungary’s internationally recognized water technologies and cooperation models.

300+ participants, 20+ countries, one shared goal: the future of water security

Leading water sector stakeholders from Africa, Europe, and Asia gathered in Hungary for the international conference “The Future of Water”, organized by the Hungarian Water Partnership within the framework of Planet Budapest 2026.

The achievements of Hungarian innovators within the Hungarian Water Partnership network, are powerful testimonies to how national expertise can contribute to global goals. These solutions embody the very spirit of the UN SDG6 Accelerator: creative, context-appropriate, affordable, and impactful technologies that help bring water and sanitation services to all.

The Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP) actively contributes to broadening the interpretation of sanitation, developing and strengthening wastewater treatment services, setting discharge standards, and identifying alternative financing models. This involvement is facilitated by Dr Károly Kovács, President of HWP, through his membership on AfWASA’s Strategic and Technical Committee (STC).
