Hungarian Water Partnership Hosts Indian Water Industry Delegation in Budapest

The Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP) recently welcomed a delegation of Indian water industry professionals in Budapest as part of a broader business mission organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA).

The visiting delegation formed part of a larger Indian business group from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce. The FICCI Central & Eastern Europe Business Mission was aimed at exploring cooperation opportunities with Hungarian companies across multiple sectors. Recognising HWP’s long-standing experience in the region and its extensive network of technology providers, HEPA in coordination with Mr. Levente Kardos, Foreign Trade Attaché of Hungary in India, invited us to host the water-sector segment of the programme and facilitate direct exchanges between Indian stakeholders and leading Hungarian water technology companies.

The delegation included senior representatives from six companies and industry organisations active in drinking water treatment, wastewater management, infrastructure development, and regional water services. Among the participants was the President of a major Indian industry federation, reflecting the strategic importance of the visit and the growing interest in Hungarian water-sector expertise.

The programme opened with a presentation by HWP Director Angelika Puskás, who introduced the organisation’s activities, international project portfolio, and the capabilities of its member companies. The presentation highlighted HWP’s extensive experience supporting water-sector development projects across emerging markets, including successful initiatives in Asia, Africa, and the Western Balkans.

The technical discussions focused on practical water management challenges currently facing different regions of India. Delegates presented a variety of local needs ranging from drinking water supply and treatment to wastewater management and infrastructure modernisation. One particularly interesting discussion centred on regions with abundant high-quality freshwater resources but limited distribution infrastructure, creating challenges in providing reliable water services to growing populations.

Several HWP member companies participated in the programme, including Pureco, Puraset and Tradeland. Representatives presented innovative Hungarian technologies and international project references, showcasing solutions for drinking water treatment, arsenic removal, wastewater management, and sustainable infrastructure development.

A key topic of interest was arsenic removal and the adsorbent technology, an area in which Hungarian companies possess internationally recognised expertise. Pureco's experience and technology solutions generated considerable attention, prompting detailed technical discussions on how Hungarian know-how could support local water quality challenges in India. The interactive format allowed participants to move beyond introductory presentations and engage in substantive exchanges on technology applications, operational experience, and future project opportunities.

The meeting provided an excellent platform for connecting Hungarian solution providers with Indian decision-makers and industry leaders. Several promising areas for further cooperation were identified, particularly in relation to drinking water treatment, decentralised water solutions, and knowledge transfer initiatives.

The visit also demonstrated the growing international recognition of Hungarian water-sector expertise and the value of HWP's role as a bridge between Hungarian technology providers and rapidly developing international markets. Over the past decades, HWP members have built strong professional relationships throughout India and the wider region, supporting technology transfer, project development, and long-term business cooperation.

Looking ahead, the organisation sees significant opportunities to further strengthen Hungarian–Indian cooperation in the water sector. The discussions initiated during the visit are expected to continue in the coming months through technical consultations and business matchmaking activities involving HWP member companies.

The event represents another important milestone in HWP’s international engagement strategy and complements the organisation’s growing presence in India, including its recent participation at IFAT India 2025. Together, these initiatives contribute to building long-term partnerships and creating new opportunities for Hungarian water technologies in one of the world’s fastest-growing infrastructure markets.
