The Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP) joined discussions on the 19th of October 2026 with delegations from Vietnam’s Thanh Hoa and Tay Ninh provinces and the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI), exploring how Hungarian expertise could support provincial development priorities.
HWP was represented by Róbert Forintos, Co-Chairman of HWP and Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI), and Angelika Puskás, Managing Director of the Hungarian Water Partnership.
Presentations by Mr Mai Xuan Liem and Mr Huynh Van Son outlined the provinces’ development priorities and interest in increasing bilateral trade, introducing innovative technologies and attracting Hungarian investment. Alongside water management, the discussions covered food safety and processing, high-tech agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and advanced manufacturing.
Water management offers a promising and key field for practical cooperation, and previous preparatory work on a water supply project in Thanh Hoa Province provides a starting point for further dialogue, with opportunities to connect local requirements with relevant Hungarian companies, technologies and specialists. Representatives of HWP and hungarian industry stakeholders present were of the view that these priorities act as an opportunity to connect Vietnamese development needs with Hungarian technological capabilities, specialist knowledge and business expertise.
As presented during the meeting, HWP can support this cooperation by identifying affordable and sustainable water management solutions, strengthening professional partnerships and facilitating the exchange of expertise, best practices and practical experience. Its contribution can also include developing bilateral cooperation frameworks and providing economic and financial advisory support for water management projects.
As the next step the parties will focus on turning broad interest into clearly defined opportunities: identifying priority areas and specific needs, matching projects with suitable Hungarian partners, and arranging targeted business and technical consultations. This approach would allow potential technology partnerships and investment opportunities to be assessed against concrete project requirements, market conditions and local priorities. If sufficiently developed projects emerge, a targeted Hungarian business delegation could visit Vietnam in 2027 to advance negotiations and develop partnerships.
HWP looks forward to continuing the dialogue with representatives of Thanh Hoa and Tay Ninh provinces and helping translate shared interests into practical, long-term cooperation in the water sector.
