HWP to Present Its International Water Cooperation Experience at Ecomondo 2026
The Hungarian Water Partnership has been invited to contribute to the professional programme of Ecomondo 2026 (3-6 of November 2026) at the Rimini Expo Centre, with a presentation highlighting how international partnerships can help transform water-sector expertise into practical, scalable solutions.
Balázs Varga, International Business Specialist of the Hungarian Water Partnership, will deliver the presentation:
Strengthening International Water Cooperation: The Experience of the Hungarian Water Partnership
The presentation will form part of the Ecomondo workshop “Water Resilience In and Beyond Europe: Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation, Innovation and Global Leadership.” The session will examine the international dimension of water resilience and the role of cooperation, research, innovation and knowledge exchange in responding to shared water challenges across Europe, the Mediterranean region and beyond.
Connecting Hungarian expertise with international needs
Balázs Varga will introduce the work of the Hungarian Water Partnership and present how HWP connects the knowledge, technologies and international experience of its members with water-sector needs in different regions of the world.
HWP’s activities extend across Europe, Africa and Asia, combining infrastructure development, professional dialogue, institutional cooperation, knowledge transfer and business development. Through its international partnerships and the practical expertise of its member companies, HWP supports cooperation in areas including drinking-water treatment, wastewater and sanitation, stormwater management, water reuse, infrastructure development and climate-resilient water management.
The presentation will demonstrate that international cooperation becomes most valuable when professional networks lead to concrete projects: solutions that respond to local conditions, remain technically and financially realistic, and can be replicated in other markets.
From cooperation to practical impact in Africa
The main part of the presentation will focus on the African projects of HWP member companies, illustrating how Hungarian water-sector expertise can be adapted to local challenges and translated into tangible results. The projects to be highlighted include drinking-water, wastewater and sanitation solutions implemented in Ghana, such as:
the Kumasi Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant,
the PurAID® drinking-water solution,
the Takoradi wastewater treatment plant and more.
These references demonstrate the importance of solutions that are not only technically effective, but also affordable, scalable and appropriate for the communities they serve.
The presentation will also highlight the international recognition received by these technologies. HWP member companies`s, sanitation work in Ghana has been featured by the International Water Association in its Citywide Inclusive Sanitation series, while the Septopure® faecal sludge treatment technology has been recognised by the United Nations as an SDG 6 Accelerator Technology.
These achievements demonstrate how the expertise of HWP member companies can contribute not only to individual infrastructure projects, but also to the wider international effort to accelerate progress towards safely managed water and sanitation services.
International networks as a pathway to implementation
The presentation will underline one of HWP’s central messages: water challenges do not stop at national borders, and effective responses require cooperation between companies, utilities, professional associations, research institutions, policymakers and financing partners.
HWP’s role is to help connect these actors and create the conditions in which Hungarian expertise can respond to real international needs. The experience gained through projects in Africa and other regions shows how long-term professional relationships, locally appropriate technologies and credible references can support both sustainable development and international market cooperation.
Ecomondo provides an important platform for continuing this dialogue. HWP looks forward to sharing its experience, presenting the achievements of its members and connecting with organisations interested in resilient, sustainable and implementable water solutions.
