Sustainable Hungarian water industry solutions presented at the IWA Congress

Bangkok hosted the congress of the International Water Association (IWA), one of the most prominent global forums in the water sector. The Hungarian water industry was represented by Dr Károly Kovács, President of the Hungarian Water Partnership.

Through his participation, attendees of the international platform received first-hand information about Hungarian solutions recognised by the United Nations as technologies supporting the acceleration of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The programme included numerous professional forums, workshops and exhibition platforms, offering valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing.

In addition to delivering presentations on regenerable adsorbent-based arsenic removal, drinking water purification, and 100% faecal sludge treatment, as well as moderating the sanitation panel discussion, Dr. Kovács held several strategic consultations with key international (IWA), European (EWA), and African (AfWASA) stakeholders.

The meetings focused on topics such as regulatory challenges related to liquid waste, alternative financing models—including bankable and affordable infrastructure developments attractive to private capital—the importance and sustainable implementation of arsenic removal from drinking water, the essential role of proper project preparation, and the need for life-cycle cost–based analyses to ensure sustainable operation.

The plenary sessions, technical panels, and bilateral meetings confirmed that in the fields of sanitation, 100% faecal sludge treatment solutions, and arsenic and fluoride removal, there is strong potential—both professionally and commercially—for establishing meaningful and forward-looking collaborations in the region.
