HWP Opens New Membership Opportunities for all Water Sector Companies Registered in Hungary
The Hungarian Water Partnership is entering a new phase in its mission to strengthen Hungary’s water sector, expand international cooperation, and support the global visibility of water-related Hungarian expertise, innovation, technologies and services.
Together with its Hungarian majority-owned member companies and through its long-term international market development strategy, the Partnership has achieved significant success, becoming a recognised and influential player in water sector cooperation across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Since its establishment, the Hungarian Water Partnership has been committed to representing and promoting the Hungarian water industry. Its original membership structure focused on majority Hungarian-owned companies, with the clear aim of developing and strengthening national expertise, supporting Hungarian enterprises, and fostering the development of domestic water industry capacities. This approach created a strong and trusted professional platform where Hungarian companies could cooperate, appear jointly on international markets, and represent the value of Hungarian water knowledge.
Today, the water sector is becoming increasingly international, integrated and innovation-driven. Many companies registered and operating in Hungary — including those with foreign ownership — contribute significantly to local employment, technology transfer, research and development, engineering expertise, manufacturing, service provision and export potential. Their presence strengthens Hungary’s role as a regional water knowledge hub and creates new opportunities for cooperation between Hungarian and international market actors.
Over the past decade, the Partnership's Member companies have increasingly cooperated in international reference projects with water sector companies operating in Hungary that are under foreign ownership. Their contribution has proven instrumental in successfully delivering complex international projects and strengthening the global reputation of the Hungarian water industry.
In response to growing international market opportunities, increasing demand for Hungarian water technologies and services, and the need to further strengthen cooperation within the sector, the General Assembly of the Hungarian Water Partnership has decided to open full membership to water industry companies registered in Hungary regardless of their ownership structure. As a result, companies operating in Hungary under foreign ownership are now also eligible to become full members of the Partnership. – Dr. Karoly Kovacs, President of the Hungarian Water Partnership
This means that, in addition to majority Hungarian-owned companies, water sector businesses, regardless of their ownership structure, operating in Hungary and contributing to the country’s professional, technological and economic water ecosystem may now also become part of the HWP community.
By opening its membership to water sector companies registered in Hungary, the Hungarian Water Partnership is taking a forward-looking step. Through this decision, the Hungarian Water Partnership aims to further strengthen the Hungarian water sector ecosystem, enhance cooperation among companies operating in Hungary, and contribute to meeting the growing international demand for Hungarian water technologies, products, and services. The expanded membership framework allows HWP to build a more inclusive, more competitive and more internationally connected professional community.
This development reflects HWP’s belief that Hungary’s water sector is strongest when it brings together all companies that are genuinely committed to water innovation, sustainable water management, environmental protection, climate adaptation, drinking water safety, wastewater treatment, non-sewered sanitation, stormwater management, circular economy solutions and international cooperation.
The new membership opportunities will enable companies registered in Hungary to participate in HWP’s professional activities, international programmes, business development initiatives, delegations, events and knowledge-sharing platforms.
Members will have the opportunity to connect with Hungarian and international partners, contribute to sector-level dialogue, and take part in HWP’s growing network of cooperation across Europe, Africa, Asia and other regions. HWP has been an active member, often acting as a connector and creating further synergies within and for international and intercontinental organisations, such as ASEM Water, European Water Association, International Water Association and the African Water and Sanitation Association AfWASA just to mention a few.
